The transmission of illness and disease is a serious issue which should be addressed in a firm manner. We don’t want our patients or our staff to be at risk of becoming infected with serious illnesses which is why Smile Today follows health guidelines for infection control which are suggested by several federal agencies which include: the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Our office effectively practices infection control by making the use of disinfectant hand soap before and after procedures and cleanup mandatory. Gloves and face masks are worn for the entirety of inspections and dental procedures. All of our equipment is sterilized before each use, and many of our tools are disposed of. Our reusable equipment is carefully cleaned and sterilized using a device which is very useful for infection control called an autoclave which uses steam, heat, and pressure to kill viruses and bacteria to eliminate the chances of spreading infections. We also use chemical disinfectants on all counter surfaces and examination chairs to ensure that all surfaces are free of harmful viruses.
A safe practice requires consideration from both our patients and staff to reschedule appointments and stay at home when they are sick to promote effective infection control. We suggest that everyone makes an effort to practice infection control by washing their hands regularly and cleaning the surfaces of their home with chemical disinfectants.
